COVID-19 Update

March 4, 2024

The Bangor School Department is committed to ensuring the health and safety of its students and staff. In line with the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the department has implemented revised protocols for respiratory viruses, including COVID-19, influenza, and RSV.

The CDC's updated recommendations provide a unified approach to addressing the risks associated with respiratory viral illnesses. These guidelines emphasize the importance of vaccination, good hygiene practices, and cleaner air in preventing the spread of diseases. The Bangor School Department will be following these guidelines moving forward.

According to the new guidance, students and staff may return to normal activities when their symptoms have improved overall for 24 hours and they have been fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medication. It is highly encouraged to continue practicing additional prevention strategies for the next 5 days, such as maintaining clean indoor air, practicing enhanced hygiene, wearing well-fitting masks, maintaining distance from others, and considering testing for respiratory viruses.

Superintendent Tager highlighted the significance of these measures in safeguarding the well-being of the Bangor community. "By aligning ourselves with the updated CDC recommendations, we continue to take proactive steps to protect our students, staff, and their families while ensuring that our students can have access to education," stated Tager. "We encourage everyone to stay up to date with vaccinations, practice good hygiene, and follow the recommended prevention strategies to curb the spread of respiratory viruses."
