The William S. Cohen School announced today that its gymnasium will be named the Lisa E. Richards Gymnasium in honor of the beloved physical education teacher, who retired after 38 years of service.
"Lisa has been the heart and soul of our physical education program for nearly four decades," said Principal Michael Missbrenner. "Her unwavering commitment to our students' health, fitness, and personal growth has left an indelible mark on generations of Bangor youth. We are thrilled to immortalize her legacy by naming our gymnasium after Coach Rich."
Richards began her career at the William S. Cohen School in 1985 and has since touched the lives of thousands of students. In addition to her role as the school's PE teacher, she has served as the coach for numerous sports teams, a DJ at school dances, a mentor to new teachers, and a trusted confidant to many young people navigating the challenges of adolescence.
"This honor is a humbling recognition of the joy I have found teaching at the William S. Cohen School," said Richards. "The students have always been my top priority, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have played a part in their physical, mental, and emotional development over the years. While I am excited to enter this new chapter of my life, I will deeply miss the daily interactions with my students and colleagues that have made this job so rewarding."
